ODME Explained: How It Works and How Tankers Discharge Slops Legally
How does ODME work on a tanker, and when can slop water legally go overboard? The oil content meter, flowmeter and speed input give litres per nautical mile, with an automatic stop above 30. Discharge only outside a special area, more than 50 nautical miles from land, en route, and within 1/30,000 of the cargo. Source: MARPOL Annex I Reg 31 and 34, IMO MEPC.108(49).
